CoActiv’s EXAM-NET provides a suite of anywhere, anytime image management products and services designed to optimize the capabilities of teleradiology groups and radiologists working in remote locations. Combined with the sophisticated capabilities of CoActiv EXAM-PACS®, image distribution, reading and archiving is quick, easy and location-free.
The initial communications hub for the EXAM-NET system is the CoActiv Acquire & Forward Server™, which combines hardware and software and is installed at each image acquisition site. After receiving studies from modalities or a PACS, the Acquire & Forward Server automatically and securely sends them to a central EXAM-NET server for temporary storage. Often, that server resides in one of the offsite CoActiv Tier-IV data centers but may also be placed at a central onsite location, depending on the needs of the radiology group. From the server, images may be pushed or pulled immediately to a radiologist’s local CoActiv EXAM-PACS. The server’s high outgoing bandwidth is specially designed to speed data to its destination.
To streamline data flow, the system can be programmed for intelligent imaging forwarding. Using the EXAM-NET server’s unique client/server technology, studies are routed automatically to appropriate radiologists at any location based on acquisition site, modality or exam description.
Because the Web-based CoActiv thin-client PACS viewer downloads from this central server, it can be accessed, along with the images, on any Internet-enabled PC. The result is a location-free virtual reading room complete with sophisticated image viewing and management software and comprehensive access to patient data.
If a practice uses the hosted EXAM-NET server at CoActiv’s offsite data centers, images typically are stored for 30 to 90 days. However, radiology groups may elect to have files permanently archived through the CoActiv EXAM-VAULT system and can generate additional revenues through resale of the archiving service to clients. CoActiv’s EXAM-VAULT® QUAD-REDUNDANT ARCHIVING® stores duplicate data in four separate locations with easy access to exams either directly or via DICOM query/retrieve.
Radiology groups using another vendor’s PACS can take advantage of the unique CoActiv EXAM-NET system by installing a second Acquire & Forward Server at image reading locations. Studies are sent from these offsite hosted servers to the local acquire & forward device and accessed using any local DICOM viewer with query/retrieve capabilities.
