Northeast Radiology Selects CoActiv EXAM-PACS® for Brookfield Center
Advanced, Affordable Solution Supports Evolving Needs
June 16, 2009—Ridgefield, CT—CoActiv announces installation of its advanced, web-based EXAM-PACS at Northeast Radiology’s new state-of-the-art Brookfield, CT imaging center. The multi-modality site selected EXAM-PACS because of its advanced functionality, reasonable price, high level of customer service as well as CoActiv’s willingness to create a customized solution.
“We wanted a high-performance PACS that would meet the needs of a start-up center but at the same time would grow with us,” said Amy Kohn, administrative director for the practice, who notes that Northeast is a successful and growing multi-site radiology group. “Therefore, along with outstanding functionality, reliability and affordable price, scalability was an important concern. We felt CoActiv EXAM-PACS was the right choice.”
EXAM-PACS is a fully Web-based PACS that provides a broad range of advanced features at a price point that enables most sites to fund a digital conversion with the cost savings realized over film-based operation. “CoActiv provided a truly state-of-the-art, easy-to-use system,” said Kohn. “The performance is comparable, if not better, than many other PACS solutions that cost several times the price.”
Most exams acquired at the new Brookfield center are read by Northeast radiologists working at other locations. Once acquired, the exams are automatically routed through an onsite server to the appropriate imaging site using simple, affordable cable modems. “We found that costly T-1 lines were unnecessary,” said Kohn. “The cable modems were less expensive and easier to set up and operate. CoActiv tailored the system to meet our needs.”
All images from the Brookfield center, as well as all other Northeast locations, are archived using CoActiv’s offsite EXAM-VAULT® QUAD-REDUNDANT ARCHIVING® system, which duplicates data in four locations for high-quality disaster protection and HIPAA-compliance. The primary and secondary archives are located in Tier-IV data centers in different states. Exams are also stored on removable media in a secure vault. The archive is managed by CoActiv, which is responsible for all maintenance and ongoing technology upgrades.
“CoActiv worked with us to customize a solution to support our current needs and that would expand with us as we grow,” added Kohn. “The company will continue fine tune EXAM-PACS as our needs change. Installation was seamless, and the PACS hasn’t had a minute of downtime since it went live.”
