Lawrence Hospital Center Selects CoActiv EXAM-VAULT for Mammography Archiving QUAD-REDUNDANT Solution Integrated with Hologic Selenia
Nov. 25, 2007, Chicago - CoActiv Medical announces Lawrence Hospital Center’s (Bronxville, NY) selection of CoActiv’s EXAM-VAULT® QUAD REDUNDANT ARCHIVING™ for the storage of images from its new Hologic® Selenia™ digital full field mammography system. The CoActiv solution stores every exam in four locations to provide ultra-secure disaster recovery and business continuity. According to Raymond Farquharson, Lawrence Hospital radiology director, “The hospital conducted an in-depth search for a storage solution and believes that CoActiv’s Quad-Redundant Archiving provides superior technology that best meets the hospital’s storage needs at a cost-effective price.”
Farquharson explains that when the hospital installed digital mammography several months ago, it needed to expand its digital storage capacity to accommodate the large data sets. Simultaneous with this, the cardiology department was implementing its own digital system and needed to store echocardiology images electronically. The hospital examined a range of solutions, including both purchasing and installing its own archiving hardware with offsite disaster recovery as well as comprehensive managed solution storage providers.
“When looking at archiving services, we met with each company individually and examined their solutions in detail,” said Farquharson. “Our search committee was impressed not only with CoActiv’s high level of redundancy and affordable pricing but also with the system’s ease of use. Today, as Lawrence’s mammography images are acquired, they are stored onsite to on a local CoActiv EXAM-SERVER™. At the same time, they are automatically sent to CoActiv’s primary offsite archive in Tarrytown, NY for storage on multi-terabyte RAID. From there, images are mirrored to CoActiv’s Level (3) Tier-IV data center in Stamford for another level of redundancy. The Stamford center involves a co-location agreement with Level 3 Communications, one of the world’s largest communications and Internet backbones. The center will provide the ability for ongoing, secure access to medical images and records in more than 23 cities in 15 European countries as well as 77 major U.S. and North American cities on an as-needed basis.
