Griffin Hospital Selects CoActiv PAPERLESS-PACS™
Implements Offsite Interpretation and Comprehensive, Electronic Radiology Workflow
Nov. 25, 2007, Chicago - CoActiv Medical™ announces installation of its PAPERLESS-PACS™ at Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT to deliver the efficiency and flexibility of complete electronic radiology workflow. Christine Cooper, Radiology Director for Griffin Hospital, comments that the new functionality provides immediate, streamlined access to electronic patient information for both onsite and remote radiologists for timely diagnoses.
“When we implemented the new paperless functionality, Griffin Hospital was facing an extremely difficult situation,” says the experienced administrator. “Our previous radiology group was leaving, and we were bringing a new group immediately on board. While that meant we would still have radiologists onsite, some of our day-to-day reading would be accomplished by physicians in multiple offsite locations.”
To support this, Griffin needed to provide offsite radiologists not only with images, but also such crucial information as patient prescriptions, technologist’s notes, clinical information and more, in a timely fashion to facilitate the desired exam turnaround.
According to Cooper, CoActiv’s existing EXAM-PACS® was already highly effective in automatically delivering images to offsite locations when needed. “However, with the new group, manual faxing of information to offsite locations would have been required, making communication time-consuming and impractical,” she said. “I knew that only a sophisticated automated scanning, storage and Web distribution system would meet our needs.” At Cooper’s request, CoActiv implemented its Paperless-PACS solution and had it up and running quickly.
With the new system, once an exam is completed, all patient information is scanned and attached to PACS images files virtually in real time. According to Cooper, the entire process takes less than two minutes. All information is immediately available to both on- and offsite radiologists, along with the exams.
The efficiencies realized over hardcopy data filing and access are enormous. Cooper also notes that before the paperless system, hardcopy records might be in use in any number of department locations, and tracking them down was time consuming. With electronic storage, any authorized user, anywhere can access complete records when needed. This also includes offsite radiologists, who can complete their reports quickly and easily. “Without this system, we would not have been able to utilize the offsite services, and the department would have suffered,” Cooper comments.
“When we switched radiology providers, we had extreme urgency to enable remote access to radiology records,” she concludes. “CoActiv responded with amazing speed. The transition to Paperless-PACS, as well as the new radiology group was flawless.”
