CoActiv Debuts EXAM-NET™ Teleradiology Suite at SIIM 2007
Efficient Anywhere, Any Time Image Access

June 7, 2007 – Providence, RI – CoActiv Medical™, the innovative developer and marketer of radiology and related healthcare imaging information technologies, introduces a suite of products and services designed to optimize the capabilities of teleradiology groups and other radiologists who work in multiple remote locations. New CoActiv EXAM-NET™ enables greater efficiency and fully integrated workflow among all radiology group members, wherever located. Combined with the sophisticated capabilities of CoActiv EXAM-PACS®, it provides an ultrafast, easy-to-use, anywhere, any time image management solution, including image distribution, reading and archiving.

“The current radiology staffing shortage has spawned an ever-evolving array of creative business arrangements, from outsourcing reading services across the globe to radiologists who work at different sites every day of the week,” said Edward Heere, President and CEO of CoActiv Medical. “This has been enabled in large part by the flexibilities provided by digital technologies, computer networking and the Internet. CoActiv’s new teleradiology suite was designed to support the unique demands of this radiology environment by speeding images wherever they need to go with a minimum of time and effort.”

CoActiv Acquire & Forward Server™
A focal point of the new product line is the CoActiv Acquire & Forward Server™, whichcombines both hardware and software and is easily installed at an image acquisition site. After receiving studies directly from multiple modalities or an existing onsite PACS, the Acquire & Forward Server automatically and securely sends these for temporary storage to a special hosted EXAM-Net server in one of the CoActiv Tier-IV data centers or onsite at the imaging location. Once received at the hosted server, images may be pushed or pulled immediately to a radiologist’s local CoActiv EXAM-PACS®. The hosted server’s high outgoing bandwidth, which is specially designed for teleradiology applications, speeds data to its destination.

The CoActiv client PACS viewer, which can also be installed on a user’s home PC or notebook, is easily downloaded from a central server, allowing radiologists to read images on any Internet-enabled PC using the same customized workspace and full range of sophisticated image viewing and management tools available on their primary workstations. This includes EXAM-3D™ for advanced color image reconstruction as well as advanced functionalities such as voice and text notes that enable radiologists to provide an immediate “wet read” for a facility virtually seconds after an exam is acquired.

Intelligent Image Forwarding
To enable an even greater level of teleradiology efficiency, the hosted server can be programmed for intelligent imaging forwarding and will automatically route studies to appropriate radiologists at any location, using unique CoActiv client/server technology. “This sophisticated rules-based push feature can be implemented based on acquisition site, modality and exam description. It also can be programmed to accommodate radiologists whose location varies with the time of day or the week,” explains Heere. “The system even can automatically send evening reads to a nighthawk group anywhere in the world.”

As part of the CoActiv EXAM-Net teleradiology service, typically exams will reside on the hosted CoActiv server for 30 to 90 days, depending on individual requirements. However, as another unique offering, a reading group may elect to contract with CoActiv on behalf of their clients for use of this system for permanent archival storage. The group can generate additional revenues through resale of the archiving service to clients. Moreover, these clients will enjoy the benefits of CoActiv’s EXAM-VAULT® QUAD-REDUNDANT ARCHIVING™ with duplicate data in four separate locations and easy access to exams either directly or via DICOM query/retrieve.

Customizable Solutions The new CoActiv teleradiology system is customizable to meet the specific needs of any radiology practice. For radiology groups using another vendor’s PACS, CoActiv can install a second Archive & Forward Server at image reading locations to enable the sophisticated teleradiology functionality. In this scenario, studies will be sent from the offsite hosted server to the local Archive & Forward device and then can be accessed using any local DICOM viewer with query/retrieve capabilities.

“With the new EXAM-Net suite, we can provide any teleradiology groups with a sophisticated system tailored to their specific needs, saving them significant time and money,” said Heere.
