CoActiv™ Medical Business Solutions Introduces EXAM-PACS™

October 23, 2003 - CoActiv Medical Business Solutions Introduces EXAM-PACS - Helps local Imaging Center win "Top 5" Award

Ridgefield, CT — CoActiv Medical Business Solutions ™ , a recently formed affiliated business of AMSYS, INC. of Ridgefield, CT, has announced plans to introduce a revolutionary Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) at the annual Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Conference, November 30th through December 4th, in Chicago, Ill.

CoActiv claims that it’s new EXAM-PACS ™ will score a major hit at the conference by providing, for the first time, affordable (typically less than one-half the cost of existing products) PACS capabilities to imaging centers and hospitals that previously found them to be cost prohibitive.

CoActiv President and CEO, Edward C. Heere, describes EXAM-PACS ™ as a comprehensive series of radiology support applications “that are easier to use, easier to learn and the most cost-effective DICOM image handling products available in today’s tele-radiology and PACS industry.” He envi-sions a PACS revolution as EXAM-PACS ™ pricing and capabilities attract the numerous radiology imaging centers and hospital radiology departments that have not yet moved into digital imaging because of price.

Asked if the reduced price was achieved at the expense of functionality, Mr. Heere replied, “Just the opposite ... EXAM-PACS ™ has retained all the necessary and required functionality of todays ordinary PACS products and added several unique new features, such as; the ability to instantly forward exams to colleagues for consultation or instantly send exams to referring physicians for review; instantly access any number of attached files (reports, voice clips, e-mails, insurance information, etc.); burn a self-contained custom EXAM-CD ™ , complete with a custom viewer.”

The EXAM-PACS ™ solution achieves much of its cost savings through the use of readily available and inexpensive PCs and PC servers. Easy to acquire, install and maintain almost anywhere on earth. Because this system is built upon of a series of DICOM compliant software applications and PC components, it is, in essence, a modular system, with most modules capable of standing alone, or being integrated into a fully functional professional PACS installation.

This modular component configuration allows the imaging centers to select just the components they need to build a PACS that meets their immediate image handling requirements and budget. Additional work stations or functionality can be quickly and easily added later, as needs change or to accommodate the entire practice enterprise. EXAM-PACS ™ modules can even be easily added to many other PACS and tele-radiology systems to add CoActiv unique functionality to an existing system. Thus allowing imaging centers and departments that already have an ordinary PACS to reap the benefits of the unique EXAM-PACS ™ features.

As mentioned by Mr. Heere, “Everything changes over time, and, in the case of PACS technology, we’re talking about very short time periods” ... “what better way to deal with this than a software driven modular system, where both hardware and applications can be quickly and easily upgraded to keep pace with advances in technology... always at minimal cost.”

When asked about taking on huge competitors in the PACS field like GE, Seimens, Phillips, Fuji and Agfa, Mr. Heere quipped, “you’re talking to the guy who developed one of the first PCs in the world more than 20 years ago, and took on IBM, a real giant, that virtually owned the industry” ... “this is really going to be fun!” he continued.

Mr. Heere says, “We believe that, by reducing the cost, while improving the capabilities of PACS, CoActiv can contribute to reducing the over-all cost of medical care, the financial health and vitality of radiology imaging centers and departments, and the delivery of improved medical care to all our neighbors.”

Already in use at several hospitals and imaging centers in Connecticut and New York, EXAM-PACS ™ is meeting or surpassing clients’ greatest expectations.

Scott Nadel, M.D., President of Northeast Radiology, Brewster, NY, a CoActiv EXAM-PACS ™ development site, states, “Now, for the first time, utilizing EXAM-PACS ™ technology, we are finally able to easily and quickly move images to the radiologist instead of moving the radiologist to the images. An incredible savings in time, expense and frustration levels.”

It’s this technology that helped Northeast Radiology win its recent award as one of the top 5 imaging centers in the country. [Health, Imaging & IT — October 2003]

“To summarize”, Mr. Heere remarked, “CoActiv EXAM-PACS ™ costs about one-half to one-third the price of comparable PACS products, can be quickly and easily installed (usually within four to six weeks of contract), can be con-figured to meet current needs, and easily expanded, and can even be used as modules to add functionality to an existing PACS ... always at affordable prices!”

EXAM-PACS ™ can be seen at RSNA 2003, integrated with the new MantisIQ ™ RIS from Mantis Technology, Booth #6432.
