CoActiv EXAM-PACS® Integrates Barco’s Voxar 3D™ Technology

CoActiv will be demonstrating their affordable, full solution PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System), EXAM-PACS®, fully integrated with Voxar 3D imaging software at the 2004 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Conference in booth # 2478, November 28th through December 3rd, in Chicago, IL.
The CoActiv EXAM-PACS® versatile and easy to use EXAM-Viewer® seamlessly integrates with Voxar 3D viewing reconstruction technology, providing state-of-the-art, 3D image enhancement “a mouse click away” for hospital and imaging center diagnostic radiologists. This complete, bi-directional integration, allows EXAM-PACS® users to do direct, color, 3D reconstructions from any series within EXAMViewer®. These reconstructed 3D images are then automatically and instantly saved back to the original exam as an additional series and become part of the exam for all subsequent viewings.
Traditional radiology processes have historically been limited to working in a multi-slice, twodimensional environment. However, with the advent of 3D technology and Voxar’s pioneering application, 3D viewing enables doctors to reconstruct organs and complete bodies in realistic three dimensional views with a few simple mouse movements. This new dimension in radiology can be used by radiologists and other specialists to perform non-invasive procedures to provide early detection of possible problems and permit treatment regimens earlier in the disease cycle than was previously possible. Furthermore, this new technology will help to reduce often painful and sometimes dangerous, invasive exploratory surgical procedures.
Expanding on MRI and CT technology that traditionally produces ever increasing numbers of single slice images, 3D viewing now adds a new dimension to the scrolling thru hundreds of 2D monochromatic images. Utilizing this alternative enhancement, the images can now be combined into a full color reconstruction of the area of interest. The technology behind Voxar 3D software uses the original 2D images and automatically renders 3D images within the CoActiv EXAM-PACS Viewer® by sharing data sets and preset parameters. The results provide increased visualization for the surgeon or specialist by displaying a 3D image that can improve the accuracy and speed of the treatment cycle.
